I am a fully qualified dyslexia teacher and assessor, with over 25 years of experience as a teacher and I currently work at The Unicorn School (a specialist school for learners with dyslexia and co-occurring conditions). I have a Level 5 and a Level 7 diploma, and an APC (Assessment Practising Certificate). I am a full member of the Professional Association of Teachers of students with Specific Learning Difficulties (Patoss).
I offer the following two services:
I offer Full Diagnostic Assessments to learners aged between 8 and 16 to give a detailed picture of their strengths and weaknesses. I make recommendations for the learner that are specific to their needs and educational setting. If appropriate, I will suggest an access arrangement, and the report can serve as evidence for a Disabled Student’s Allowance (DSA) application should they pursue higher education.
Usually, an assessment takes 3 hours and starts with puzzles to measure visual and verbal ability. Subsequent assessments measure phonological processing, providing the evidence for difficulties with spelling, reading and writing. Other conditions can often occur with dyslexia and I include onward referrals within my report, if appropriate.
I offer specialist tutoring to suit the learner’s needs, including support with reading, spelling, extended writing and answering comprehension questions. I hope to equip the learner with useful strategies and skills to develop their confidence so that they can move forwards.
I can travel locally to teach on a 1:1 or I can teach in my home. You are welcome to stay in our living room during the teaching session. I am DBS checked.
